Sober scientific translation is an important tributary of the knowledge transfer and the indigenizing modern technology in various science branches among different countries of the world. Therefore, the Scientific Research Center seeks to launch a "program to support scientific translation" to achieve the university vision. This ambitious program encourages the academic staff and researchers to invest their scientific and academic potential and expertise in translating sober scientific books and rich academic series from foreign languages ​​into Arabic, which enriches the Arab scientific library and achieves the knowledge community we seek.

Accordingly, the university initiated this idea and supported it due to its close link with the educational process and community issues.

Objectives

1. Achieving the university’s vision.

2. Providing the library with practical, sober, modern references from foreign languages.

3. Supporting the scientific research movement in the community and enriching it with knowledge and culture.

4. Motivating academic staff and those interested in translation in order to achieve distinguished scientific work.

Targets

Academic staff, scholars from Al-Razi University or from outside who are interested in translation from English into Arabic.

Standards

The translated work submitted to the program should meet the following standards:

1. The translated work shall represent a distinct scientific addition and value to the field of disciplines of interest to Al-Razi University and community.

2. The written books shall enrich the areas of the university's strategic plan.

3. The translation shall be professional, accurate, and maintain the meaning integrity and the pronunciation smoothness.

4. The translator shall observe scientific ethics and preserve the intellectual property of others.

5. The translation of sober scientific books shall be recently published not exceeding three years from the their publication date.

6. The translated version shall not have been previously published or submitted at the same time for publication in any other agency.

7. The translator shall be fully fluent in the two languages ​​from which he was translated and translated into.

8. The translation shall preserve the drawings and figures, as well as the reference signals contained in the original text of the book.

9. The author shall indicate in the translated book his/her affiliation with Al-Razi University.

Implementation Process

1. The translator / translation team submits a request to support the translation of a book into its scientific section by filling out the program form on the website accompanied by a copy of the foreign book and the translator's CV.

2. After obtaining the necessary approval for translation work by the relevant department council and the faculty council, the application is submitted to the Scientific Research Center for consideration and opinion.

3. The application is examined by a scientific committee determined by the Scientific Research Center according to the field of the book, and it recommends any of the following:

A- Acceptance of the project to write the book (and the main author will be informed of this).

B- Acceptance of the project with some amendments . (The main author shall be notified of making the amendments within two weeks).

C- Rejecting the project. (The main author shall be notified without giving the reasons for rejection).

1. The Scientific Committee submits its recommendations to the Council of the Scientific Research Center for approval.

2. Signing a contract with the translator / translation team and the director of the Scientific Research Center for an amount not exceeding 200,000 Riyals.

3. The translator / translation team undertakes to provide the required material during the contract period, and in case of breaching the conditions stated in the contract, the right of the translator / translation team to claim his financial rights stipulated in the contract shall be forfeited.

4. After completing the translation work, two reviewers in the specialty are chosen to consider whether or not they adhere to the criteria for accurate translation, as well as the extent to which the author is able to translate the content into an accurate scientific translation.

5. When the reviewers authorize the translation, the translator will be paid the financial reward stipulated in the contract.

6. A hard copy and an electronic copy of the book, after completion of the reviewers' amendments, shall be submitted to the Scientific Research Center for printing.

7. The university owns the rights to print the translated book.

Rules for publishing translated books

1. The translated book is not considered acceptable for publication except after the approval of the review and the scientific council.

2. A book is considered an integrated unit, regardless of the number of its parts, and it is treated in terms of reward as one book.

3. The translator is fully responsible for observing the rules of intellectual property rights of others.

4. The translator corresponds to the publisher to obtain permission to publish, and to obtain an original copy of the figures contained in the book.

5. The translator is obligated to translate the entire contents of the book including the introduction, explanations of shapes, and appendices, and that the shapes are saved in the (Tiff) extension or in Photoshop format, with attention to preparing an introduction for the translation.

6. In the event that there are amendments to the translated version by the reviewers, they shall be submitted to the translator to make the amendments mentioned in the reports or to justify in case they are not taken into account.

7. After completing the translation of the book, the translator submits to the Scientific Research Center three copies of the book translation project, three copies of the original book, and an electronic copy on a magnetic disk (CD).

8. The translator shall be granted (50) fifty copies of the translated book free of charge.
